I'm Miss Linda.
In my twenties, I became a Waldorf teacher. I taught first-graders how to read using a traditional phonics-based approach combined with Waldorf multi-sensory methods.
Later, I became a reading interventionist and I put together my signature reading program, incorporating best practices from many different sources, including the latest research on the teaching and learning of reading.
I'm passionate about ending the reading crisis in the U.S. I feel that mobilizing parents is the answer. Parents have access to children 24-7 and can be taught to implement at home reading programs to teach even kids with
dyslexia to read using professional techniques. It's really not rocket science. If you can read, with a little training, you can run reading lessons for your own child.
Interesting fact: I'm a "second generation" reading teacher. My father was a reading and writing teacher for over fifty years, and my sister teaches reading to ESL students. It is in the family!
I currently study in the Master's Program in Literacy at the University of Cincinnati. My goal is to complete advanced research on reading assessment which will help differentiate different "types" of dyslexia. I have three children, a husband, and one cat, and my hobby is growing plum trees!
